Course Description

The Battle of Hastings was not the only battle fought in 1066. At Hastings on 14 October 1066, William the Conqueror defeated the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, Harold Godwinson, and then began his conquest of England. However, Godwinson’s Anglo-Saxon armies had been weakened in the Yorkshire battles of Fulford and Stamford Bridge just weeks before Hastings. This course examines the Yorkshire battles of Fulford and Stamford Bridge and how they contributed to William’s victory at Hastings. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
