The Historia Fundationis tells the turbulent early histories of these two religious houses, following the wanderings of the refugee monks from Calder, who came to Yorkshire in 1138, alongside the narrative of the foundation of their daughter abbey Jervaulx. The story of these houses is put against a backdrop of the broader national and European scene: civil war between King Stephen & Empress Matilda, the growth Cistercian Order and its merger with Savigny, and the Second Crusade. The Historia is printed in Latin with a full English translation alongside.
177pp, perfect bound case with colour printed limp cover.
